Winner of CEDIA "Best Integrated Home Level II" Award 2019 - The House with Everything!

A large (12,500 sq ft) property that started off as a simple fit-out for Llama Group and Janey Butler Interiors which turned into a complex structural building project with a comprehensive intelligent control system.

The family wanted to use the power and versatility of a Crestron system to integrate all of their media, security and lifestyle requirements; and Ultamation provided the magic to bring everything together.

One of the most striking features in the house is in their primary lounge. This is the focal point of the house for the family and they wanted an accessible big screen experience, but without spoiling the aesthetics. Working with Future Automation and a custom canvas maker, a huge mechanism that opens two 2.5m square canvasses was installed to reveal an 85” 4K TV. The canvasses were sent to an artist specifically commissioned by Janey Butler Interiors to create the impressive ‘diptych’ painting that looks just as good when split to either side of the TV, or as a large landscape-format painting when the TV is off.

For the complete visual experience, the family have access to Sky Q4K Apple TVs and the world renowned Kaleidescape movie server. For their listening pleasure, an Autonomic MMS-5e allows the family both to rip and play all of their existing CD library content and, more commonly now, enjoy their streaming services, or Airplay from their Apple devices.

An impressive automated 18m SkyFrame sliding door system borders one corner of the main living space and is controlled from the Lutron system which allows the family to open the space to the magnificent gardens and bring the outside inside at the touch of a button. In addition; lighting is fully controllable with popular scenes set in the common rooms. Blinds and curtains are also controlled in the main living spaces, entrance hall, hallway corridors, gym, pool and master bedroom.

To offer full control there are handheld remotes designated to key rooms and a unified user interface on all of the owner’s mobile devices in addition to a number of on-wall Crestron touch panels - which can be found in the open-plan living areas, gym and pool – everything in the system can be controlled from any panel.

Completing the system; heating and air conditioning is controlled throughout the whole house along with the CCTV system – viewable from the touch-panels, mobile devices or any TV – and management of the intruder alarm, with the PIR’s providing another level of automated actions such as the lack of movement in rooms for a prolonged time triggering “Occupancy room off”.

As the family settles into their new home and becomes comfortable with the enhanced integration, there are various automated elements which we can be enabled to level up the intelligence. As an example, several rooms implement a morning lighting scene. This is tied into the wake-up alarm feature of the Crestron touch panels; it slowly raises the blinds 20 minutes before the alarm goes off and then starts a gentle fade up of the lights to coincide with the alarm – allowing the family to wake up gently, and fully refreshed.

It’s little wonder this project won CEDIA’s Best Integrated Home (level 2) 2019!

With thanks to our partners at Intuitive Homes for project management, installation and technical excellence, and Llama Group and Janey Butler Interiors for introducing us to this stunning project and use of photography.
