Ultamation were asked to be a part of the team creating the new home of Salford Rugby League Club.  The £16 million project will not only accommodate a crowd of 12,000 extending up to 20,000 over time, but  also has built-in offices, player facilities, hospitality boxes, concessions, community resources, two community outdoor sports pitches and will be available for business and public hire.

The stadium has a large banqueting suite that can seat up to 750 people and can be divided up into up to three separate, smaller areas for smaller functions.  Ultamation was contracted to provide a completely integrated Crestron AV solution for this suite, which was completed and commissioned in February 2012.

The Technical Bit

The finished solution makes use of Crestron’s best-of-breed HD video solution, DigitalMedia™. At its core is a 16x16 DigitalMedia matrix – allowing the provision of full 1080p video to every one of the suite’s displays. When split into three lounges, each lounge has the ability to make use of its own BluRay player and PC, as well as an optional lectern position with VGA and HDMI inputs. In addition to this, there is a provision for auxiliary AV inputs for a DJ or stadium staff to use with their own source devices, as well as an IPTV connection per lounge.

Ultamation’s programming solution provides unparalleled flexibility in the operation of the AV suite – allowing for all possible room configurations and source selections, whilst maintaining ease of use operations staff.  Thanks to Crestron’s DM-TX-201-C transmitters and DM-RMC-200-C receivers, any source in any lounge can be displayed on any display in the suite, scaled to full 1080p to ensure optimal picture quality and compatibility with non-standard video sources.

Each lounge makes use of a single Crestron C2NI-CB keypad for source selection and control, automatically adapting source destinations according to the current room configuration. Ultamation’s programming removes the need for complex master/slave configuration options, instead providing a slick control solution for the end user that works simply and intuitively, regardless of the suite layout.

Administrative control of the AV suite is provided by Ultamation in the form of Crestron XPanel software, running on both an administrative PC and a wireless laptop. The administrative panel draws on Ultamation’s considerable UI design and implementation strengths, providing a powerful interface for stadium staff to monitor and control the AV suite. Functions are provided for full control of all equipment and source selections, as well as lockout functions for the C2NI-CB keypads to prevent unintended use of the system.

In summary, Ultamation has provided a powerful, flexible solution, one that ensures the best possible AV experience for Salford City Stadium staff, visitors and customers alike.
